Preparing for your Portrait Session When preparing for your session, keep these following things in mind.
- What would make your portrait special?
- What does your family like to do together?
- Where are your hobbies and interests?
- Are there special places where your portrait would look best?
- Would you like indoors, outdoors, at home or at the lake?
Portraits will tell your story forever so please think seriously about creating portraits that will reflect 'you'. This can be achieved through the location of the shoot, your wardrobe, even props that are used. Talk about your ideas with us. Get involved and let us help.
General Shoot Preparation
- Choose a location with some of your favorite flowers, trees, grass, etc.
- Please understand that although I can work with all types of weather conditions, I cannot be held accountable for nature. We can reschedule the portrait day if necessary.
- Get a good night sleep before your session.
- Your face should be the focal point of your portraits.
- Drinking lots of fluids will improve your skin texture.
- Items such as watches, glasses, and other tight fitting jewelry or clothing can leave red marks on your skin and can take up to an hour to disappear. Please be sure you remove them at least an hour before showing up for your appointment.
- Fine watches, rings, necklaces, pins and bracelets are always in good taste and should be coordinated with each outfit you bring.
- If your hands or feet will be in the photograph, be sure your nails are manicured.
- Take your child's schedule into consideration. As a parent you know when your child is at his or her best. Children's portrait sessions should be scheduled for a time of day when they are well-rested and alert. Back to Top
Expressions
- Relax and enjoy your session. Your emotions show.
- The soft sensitive expressions are the best. We will take only a few big smiles.
- Tell children they will play and have a good time. We will do the rest. Back to Top

- Schedule children around their good times of day, avoiding nap times and before feedings.
- Allow enough time so you can be at your appointment early. You don't want to feel stressed or hurried before your shoot.
- Schedule your portrait for the time of day that you usually feel your best.
- Please call if you need to change your appointment for any reason, fees may apply for no shows or late cancellations. Back to Top
